George Lee, son of George and Elizabeth, father of Trish, Jeannette, Margie, Beth, Ted, Lolly, Mike, Tom and Rick, died.
LEE _ George Edward 1915 - 2004 Ted was born in Trent River, Ontario. At the age of three, Ted and his family moved to Midnapore, AB where his grandparents, George and Madeleine Hodgson, had been living before the turn of the century. Ted was to make this his home for the remainder of his 89 years. Ted was a World War Two veteran who was stationed in England, Africa, Italy, France, Holland and Germany. He also marched in the Victory March across Europe, giving four years of his life for the freedom that we enjoy today. He was a farmer, builder, and heavy equipment operator. He ran the Fish Creek Service Station and in later years was employed by the Fish Creek Provincial Park. Ted was the 1990 president of the Southern Alberta Pioneers and Their Descendants. He loved to socialize and to dance. Many a lady has mentioned the night was not complete without a dance with our Dad. Ted was also a lifetime member of St. Patrick's Church - the original church site having been donated by his uncle Patrick Glenn. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, and was an elder in the Metis' Association where he was honoured to be a bundle carrier. Ted was predeceased by Marjorie (Marge) in the year 2000 - his wife of fifty years - with whom he raised nine children, Trish, Jeannette, Margie, Beth, Ted, Lolly, Mike, Tom and Rick. All of them have been blessed with the opportunity to lovingly care for their Dad in his last years. This opportunity has been especially important to his children as each of them remember times when they had fallen ill or injured and were gathered up in their father's strong arms to be comforted by the amazing power of his reassuring voice and healing touch of his large, gentle hands. Ted was also predeceased by his father George; his mother Elizabeth; all his brothers, John (Hodge), Phillip, William (Dogie); his only sister, Mary (Bobbie); his son-in-law, Craig Bernick; and his eldest grandson, David Stewart. He leaves behind his in-laws, Jeannette Lee of Ontario, Hazel Warden of High River, Murial Lee of Red Deer, Tom and Barbara Fachini of Calgary, Pat and Susie McGregor of Lacombe, his many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Ted bounced three generations on his knee, having thirty-four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of them loving and knowing him as Gramps (Match). On November 23, Ted passed on, peacefully, in the comfort of his home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army or The Alberta Children's Hospital. Prayers Sunday, November 28 at 7:00 p.m. and Funeral Mass Monday, November 29 at 2:00 p.m., both to be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1414 Shawnessy Blvd. S.W.
