George Lee, born in 1934, spouse of Caroline Lee, son of Frank and Mamie, father of Jeff, Lynda and Rob, died on June 10, 2014 at 79 years old.
GEORGE LEEGeorge Edward Lee passed away on June 10, 2014 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 79. George is survived by his wife, Marlene Vince; sister Dorothy; son Jeff (Annemarie); daughter Lynda (Martin); son Rob (David); stepson Michael; and grandchildren Christiana, Marissa, Una, Robbie and Molly. He was predeceased by his second wife Caroline, his parents Frank and Mamie, his sister Marjorie, and brother-in-law Max. George was born near Watson, SK on October 19, 1934. He attended City Park Collegiate Institute in Saskatoon, the University of Saskatchewan (Dipl. Voc. Ag., BSc, MSc) and Purdue University (PhD). He married Elsie Lee in 1959 and settled in Saskatoon to raise their three children. He made a significant contribution to the study of agriculture during his career at the U of S, including as Head of the Dept. of Agricultural Economics, Associate Dean of the College of Agriculture, Coordinator of Agricultural Research, Head of the Western Beef Development Centre, Member of the Board of Agriculture Development Fund and the Prairie Swine Centre, Chair of the Saskatchewan Farmland Security Board and as a Fellow of the Agricultural Institute of Canada. He was also active in his community, as President of the St. Matthew Home and School Association, as coach of minor baseball and hockey, and with the Saskatoon Horticultural Society. George was a skilled carpenter and woodworker and an extraordinary gardener. He spent time with his family skating, cross country skiing and canoing and working on the family farm. During his retirement years, he spent several happy winters in Arizona and travelled extensively. He will be sadly missed for his sense of humour, quiet kindness and genuine warmth. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 14 at 2 p.m. at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 - 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
