RENSSELAER George Joseph D'Ambrose, better known as The Barber, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at his residence in Rensselaer. He was born on September 10, 1913 to his late parents, John J. and Loretta DeJulio D'Ambrose in Rensselaer where he lived his entire life. George was a faithful communicant of Saint John's Church where as a child he was the lead soprano in the choir. For 35 years, he owned and operated George's Barber Shop on Third Street. A devoted husband to the late Olga E. Bowers. Mr. D'Ambrose was the loving father to Ann Loretta and James F. Pratt of Rensselaer. He was the grandfather to the Hon. Mark G. and Tanya Pratt of Rensselaer, Christopher M. and Cathy Pratt of East Greenbush, Tamera E. and Rev. Charles Muller of North Greenbush and Benjamin M. Pratt of Rensselaer. George is survived by his brother, Carl B. D'Ambrose of Rensselaer and several nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his brothers, Chester J. D'Ambrose, Ernest (Ned) D'Ambrose, Casper D'Ambrose and sisters, Mrs. Sam (Antoinette) Bruno, Mrs. Martin (Rose) Higgins and Mrs. John (Sadie) Sottile. George was a member of the Minks firehouse of Rensselaer, the past exalted ruler and New York State vice-president of the Rensselaer Elks, a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and the Victory Club of Rensselaer. George was also the code enforcement officer for the City of Rensselaer for 10 years where he retired. George loved hunting and fishing, cooking (his sauce), gardening, going to the track and the Yankees. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral at 9:15 on Saturday morning at the W.J. Lyons Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer thence to St. John's Church on Herrick Street, Rensselaer at 10:00 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. Condolence page at: www.wjlyonsfuneralhome.com
