Obituary of George-J. -Pizzuta Sr


George J. Pizzuta Sr., 84, of Weehawken, N.J., passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013. The funeral will be on Friday, June 7, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. from the Leber Funeral Home in Union City, N.J., then to St. Lawrence Church, where at 10:30 a.m. a Mass will be offered. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. George was born in Hoboken, N.J., and lived most of his life in Weehawken. He was a member of the Weehawken Fire Department for over 25 years, serving as captain and deputy chief, retiring in 1983. George was an active member of the Weehawken Elks Lodge No. 1456, where he was the former exalted ruler and current treasurer. He was also very influential in Camp Moore, the Elks' camp for handicapped children, as well as active in the Fireman's Relief Association of the New Jersey State Firefighters Association. George was the devoted husband of the late Marie Pizzuta (nee Stripp). He was the beloved father of George Pizzuta Jr. and wife, Nancy, Robert Pizzuta and wife, Jessica, and Kevin Pizzuta and wife, Maria. George was the dear brother of Mary Di Taranto, Diane Grega, Charles Jr., Francis, Thomas, James, and Patrick Pizzuta, and Charlene Kingsbury. He was also the loving grandfather of Brittany, Jenna, Daniel, Renee, Anthony, Alexa, and Nicholas.
