<!-- FH = Neal-Tarpley-Parchman 931-645-6488 --><!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->George I. LeeGeorge I. Lee, age 85, of Clarksville, TN, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in Nashville. He was born December 3, 1928, in Slagle, WV, to the late George and Ila Jane Haggerty Lee. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 5 at 11:00 AM, at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel, with Dr. John David Laida, Dr. Felts Dent, and Bill Morris officiating. Interment will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery - West, in Hopkinsville, KY. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM, and on Wednesday, from 10:00 AM until the hour of service, at the funeral home. Mr. Lee graduated from Logan High School in 1946, and married the love of his life, Mabel Gartin (Lee) on September 26, 1953, in Logan, WV. He served two years in the United States Navy, but spent most of his military career in the United States Army, a proud member of the 101st and 82nd Airborne. He served during the Korean War, and as an ARVN advisor in Vietnam. During his time in his much-loved Army, he also saw duty in Japan and Panama. He retired as a Platoon Sergeant (PSG) in 1968. After retirement, he worked at the Trane Company, who awarded his daughter a National Merit Scholarship in 1972. He was also a manager at Shoneys Restaurants in Clarksville and Nashville. His last job was in the Civil Service at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital. He was a member of the Masonic Order for more than fifty years, and a long-time member of Clarksville Lodge 89. He also supported the Order of the Eastern Star, in which his wife had been a State Grand Officer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clarksville for over forty years. He loved his wife, who made his life shine as his "Twinkle". He was devoted to all animals, but most especially to his five Pekinese over the years. He planned and tended his garden primarily for the squirrels, rabbits, and birds. In earlier years, he loved traveling, and of all his journeys, most enjoyed a long-desired trip to Germany, to visit his daughter-of-the-heart, Connie McMillin, her husband Mark, and their sons Matthew and Stephen. A private and peaceful man who never raised his voice, he enjoyed telling stories to all, and his face particularly lit with joy when talking to children while he was out walking his dogs. He leaves a daughter, Pamela Lee Novick, and her husband Peter, of Hayama, Japan and South Newfane, VT; his sister, Elaine Lee Thompson, of Scott's Depot, WV; a brother, Lowell Lee; and three grandchildren, Colin, Ian, and Anna, of Japan. Over the past few years, and especially after the death of his wife, Mabel, in August, Donald Black and Bettye Sleigh cared for him with an unswerving loyalty and dedication, surpassing that of a son or a daughter, a brother or a sister. He was predeceased by a sister, Nadine Lee Hinchman, and a brother, Robert Lee. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clarksville Humane Society, P.O. Box 571, Clarksville, TN 37041. Arrangements entrusted to Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, 1510 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040; (931) 645-6488. Online condolences may be made at www.neal-tarpley.com.
