George G. Goodwin KITTERY, MAINE - George G. Goodwin, 75 of South Eliot Road in Kittery, Maine died on March 11, 2015 at Edgewood Center in Portsmouth, N.H. following a period of failing health. Born on in Mansfield, Massachusetts on September 6, 1939 he was a son of William and Vivian (Kelso) Goodwin. He moved with his family at the age of two to Foxboro, Massachusetts, where he attended schools, graduating from Foxboro High School with the class of 1957. As a young man he worked as a mechanic at Mitrano Chevrolet and in the New Haven and Hartford area as a machinist. George proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force retiring as a Senior Master Sargent, serving four tours of duty in the Vietnam War, Primarily in Thailand. He served for over twenty four years in many duty stations including his first and last station which was PEASE Air Force Base. On October 7, 1962 he married his loving wife Sally A. (Gaffney) Goodwin and together they lived in many duty stations worldwide raising a family. In 1984 upon retirement they settled for a time in Somersworth, N.H. before moving to Kittery, Maine to be close to family in 2006. George attended Southern Illinois University and the University of Hawaii receiving a degree in Education, majoring in History and Biology. He enjoyed shooting, both long and short guns, hunting and fishing and membership in the Air force Sergeants Association and the Portsmouth VFW. He is survived by his loving family, a daughter Theresa and her husband Michael LaMarca of Kittery, Maine and sons; Michael A. Goodwin and his girlfriend Sheila Mosley of Dover, NH and Steven and his wife Carol Ann Goodwin of Dauphin Island, Alabama, grandchildren; Mark, Paul, Steven Jr and Nicole Goodwin, Francesca Guerreo, and Sarah, Jim and John LaMarca and his many friends and caregivers at the Edgewood Center. He was predeceased by his loving wife Sally. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday March 21, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Raphael's Church on Whipple Road in Kittery with the Rev. Scott Mower as celebrant. Friends may visit with George's family on Friday from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904.
