HERO, GEORGE F. ("Domer"...as in Notre Dame), passed away Wednesday, December 17 at the age of 84 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in East Chicago, Indiana to George and Frances Hero who had immigrated from the Island of Kirk in Croatia. George was a passionate basket- ball player at East Chicago Washington High School where he was a member of the 1948 state championship team. George graduated from the University of Notre Dame where he was inspired to pursue the field of law. After one year of Notre Dame Law School, he was drafted into the United States Army to serve in the Korean War. When he returned, he completed his law degree at the University of Miami. George practiced law in the Miami area for over 50 years. He is survived by his supportive wife, Marie, and three incredible children: daughters, Samantha Langkammerer (Jason), Heather Huffard (Josh) and son Bart Hero: five grandchildren, Lee, Edie, Beckett, Oliver and Jack. In Indiana, he is survived by his brother Joseph M. Hero, wife Janet and niece Julie. George treasured his group of dear friends who have been very supportive throughout the years for that his family is very thankful. There will be a Mass on Monday, December 29 at 10am at St. Augustine Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the University of Notre Dame in the name of George F. Hero.
