JACKSON _ George Bernard (Bernie) of Tsawwassen, passed away peacefully with his family by his side in the Special Care Unit at Kinsmen Retirement Centre on March 13, 2007 at the age of 86 where he suffered a stroke. Born in Stockport, England, he served in the R.A.F. as a Radar Technician during WWII from 1941-1946, serving overseas including 2 years with 354 Squadron in India. Predeceased by brothers Harry and David in England. Survived by his loving wife, Marian of 59 years, daughters Sue and Pam, son Clive and wife Nikki and grandson Chris. Bernie, along with Marian and 3 year old daughter Sue immigrated to Canada in 1953, residing in North Vancouver for 25 years where he started a successful electronics and TV business, Bernie Jackson Ltd. He was a member of the North Shore Cricket Club and North Shore Lion's Club before moving to the South Delta area in 1979. He accomplished many personal achievements after taking early retirement, including building 3 family homes, obtaining a private pilot's license at age 50 and flying his own plane. He was an active member of the Riverside Flyers radio controlled club for over 35 years enjoying many happy hours with his friends, who he considered his second family, building and flying model planes. Bernie was a very happy, energetic and creative person who enjoyed life thoroughly. He loved talking to people, creating things in his workshop, listening to music, riding his bike, feeding the birds and providing biscuits for neighbourhood dogs on his daily walks. The family would like to thank friends Al, Roy, Ken, Mervin, Bill, Shelley, Kay and Lee for the support over the last few difficult years. Thanks also to family physician Dr. Tom Martin and the staff at the Special Care Unit for the excellent care he received during his short stay. Following cremation, a Celebration of Bernie's life will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 2 pm at Tsawwassen United Church, 693 53rd Street. In lieu of flowers your consideration in making a donation to the Special Care Unit at the Kinsmen Retirement Centre, 5410 10th Avenue, Delta, BC V4M 3X8 or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
