George Arthur Lee Born March 9, 1920 Caproel, ON, died Nov. 8, 2004 at 84 in New Westminster, B. C. Eldest son of the late Arthur and Clara Lee, descendants of early settlers. George was predeceased by his daughter Sara and brothers Keith and Harold. Survived by his daughter Elizabeth of Kingston and son Arthur of Winnipeg, nieces and nephews. George moved with his family around Canada and the US during the depression; at one point he and his brothers sold "Javel water" house to house to help earn money for the family. George graduated in Engineering from University of Toronto 1942 as a member of the COTC. George served as a Lieutenant in The Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in WWII. He was part of the Italian campaign. For some of this time he was attached to Popski’s Private Army, a commando unit that operated behind German lines. He married Ruth Hoskin 1945, divorced 1957, Married Elaine Westling 1958 divorced 1964. After the war George worked with his father and brothers in the family insulation business for six years in Toronto. As a metallurgical engineer, George moved to the US in the early 50s to work on the Mercury, Saturn and Apollo space projects. George returned to Canada in the 1970s. George suffered from a debilitating bipolar disorder and was in and out of hospital for the next thirty years. His brother Keith was always supportive, helping him innumerable times, in many ways over the years. He and his wife Ruth and family welcomed him into their home and to family gatherings. His nephew Tom kindly shared many a conversation with him. George was an intelligent man whose life was sadly limited by his disease. Burial has taken place.
