George A. Godin 79, passed away November 12, 2005 from complications following a heart attack. A native Pennsylvanian and 32 year Tucson resident, he is survived by two children, James of Tucson, Suzanne of Plattsburg, NY; three grandchildren, Simone and Travis of Connecticut, Angela of Plattsburg, and his companion of nine years, Claire Snow. George was a graduate Civil Engineer from the University of Pittsburgh, 1950. He served in WWII in the Navy, Pacific theatre, as a radar specialist. After a 23 year career in heavy construction and marine engineering, George founded the first Arizona county building department in Pima County in 1973. Later he was responsible for the planning, engineering and construction of La Paloma. Upon retiring he was expert witness in accidental injury lawsuits and a member of Pima County Building Code Advisory Board for two terms. He loved hunting, fishing, photography, workshop, crafts, and memorable people. After he was 70 he learned tennis by watching the pros and became an enthusiastic player. He was also a self-taught theatre organ player. George felt every challenge was to be met and conquered. Despite some difficult times, he had an interesting life and gave it everything he had. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 30th, at 1:00 p.m. at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.Published on Tucson.com on 11/27/2005.
