He also served in the U.S. Army and retired as a Sgt. 1st Class. He is survived by wife, Mara Smith; son, Blake Smith (Missy); granddaughter, Mikayla Smith; brothers, Carl, Tom and Ronnie (Liz) Smith; sister, Helen Wofford (Edward). Private services to be held.
