Gary Lee Smith, 56, died Aug. 24, 2009, at his home. He was born in Huntington, W.Va., and lived in Vero Beach for 21 years, coming from South Point, Ohio. He worked as a security guard at Glenbrooke in Palm Bay. He also worked for Devereux of Florida in Viera and Tire Kingdom in Fort Pierce. He was musician and drummer and did a lot of studio work. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Sebastian. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Bonnie Smith of Palm Bay; daughters, Penny Smith of Vero Beach and Melissa Feickert of Sebastian; brother, James Smith of South Point; sister, Tammy Young of West Union, Ohio; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Joann Smith; and sister, Debbie. SERVICES: Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Strunk Funeral Home in Sebastian. A service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Clifton Cooley officiating. Military honors by the Sebastian Area Veterans Honors Guard will follow the service.
