Gloria Rebecca Carter departed this life on Sunday, April 1, 2001 in Atlanta, GA. Ms. Carter was a lifelong resident of Port Chester, NY, where she graduated from Port Chester Senior High School. She was employed by J.C. Penney in White Plains for the past 20 years. She was also an employee of White's Gift Shop in Port Chester for many years until its closing. She was predeceased by her parents, Nathaniel Sr. and Jane Bannister Carter. Left to mourn her passing are her beloved daughter, Laura Jean Williams, her son-in-law James Sr., and grandson, James, Jr. Also surviving are her four sisters, Sybilla Thompson, Beacon, NY, Elizabeth White, Hopewell Junction, NY, Jane Winchester, Port Chester, NY, Susie Freeman, Wappingers Falls, NY and four brothers, George Carter, Fishkill, NY, Beverly Carter, Oxford, Ohio, Nathaniel Carter, Jr., Rye, NY and Issichar B. Yacab, Beacon, NY. Her sister Isabella Potter predeceased her. Additionally, she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends, all of whom will miss her dearly. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2001 at St. Frances A.M.E. Zion Church, 18 Smith Street, Port Chester, NY at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Frances A.M.E. Zion Church.
