Gloria M. DeMarco Stone, age 85, of Rotterdam, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, following an extended illness. Born on May 14, 1924 and raised on Strong Street in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Flora (Micco) DeMarco and attended Nott Terrace High School. Gloria loved being with her family and friends, especially the holidays, and found much joy in cooking, playing bridge with the Golden Girls, golfing, casinos and going out to eat. She was the backbone of her husband's political career in Rotterdam, hosting dinner parties, serving on many committees and organizing the 1970 Rotterdam Sesquicentennial. Gloria was best known for running the office of the family-run Funeral Home, as she greeted and consoled families in their time of grief. She and Fran spent many summers at Sacandaga Lake and winters in Barefoot Bay, Florida. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis L. Stone (1999); and sister to Michael (Janet) DeMarco, Jr., MaryAnn Nass and the late Lenora DeMarco. She is also survived by four daughters, Dayna (Ken) Nomiyama of Stamford, CT, and Newport, RI, Janice ChiChi Chase of Schenectady, Pamela (Kelly) Testa, and Jude (Fred) Wilcox of Rotterdam; Grandma Bubbles to Dorey (Brian) Carberry, Kesa Nomiyama, Mitsi (Tom) Dupre, Michael (Dawn) Rowny, Louisa, Lydia and Marco Testa, Tara (Jay)Van Patten, and Shane Taylor; great-grandmother of Maile, Alex and Zoe Carberry, Joel Dupre, Santanna, Miyanna, Deanne and Michaelina Rowny, Francesca and Angelina Lanni and Jack Van Patten. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff of Ellis Hospital, Visiting Nurses and Rotterdam Paramedics for all their care and compassion, and especially Dr. Michael Novak and his staff. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Tuesday, December 1 at 10 a.m., at The Church of St. Madeline Sophie, 3500 Carman Road, Guilderland, followed by burial at St. Josephs Cemetery on Kings Road at Albany St., Schenectady. Contributions in Gloria's memory may be made to St. Jude's, Tribute Program, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis TN 38148-0142 or a charity of your choice.
