He was born on May 7, 1928 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he had a 38-year career with IBM. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Janet O'Neal and is survived by his wife Mona Ives; his sister-in-law Claire Gilbert; his children Mary, Tom, Kathy and Susan; and his seven grandchildren. A resident of Pawley's Island, South Carolina since 1998, George was active in the Kiwanis Club, enjoyed watching Gamecock football, playing golf and reading novels on the beach. He especially adored Mona's cooking.A Graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. March 7 at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers.
