Obituary of George-J. Davis


George J. Davis, 78, of a Shrub Oak resident since 1955 died September 1, 2003 at the Castle Point VA Hospital. He was born on December 2, 1924 in Buchanan, NY to Thomas and Mabel Conklin Davis. George graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School in 1943. He served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945, 1946 to 1948 and 1950 to 1952, attaining the rank of Corporal. George was an American Ex POW, a member and past president of the society of the 3rd Infantry Division, where he laid the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Memorial Day for the four years he was president. He was instrumental in achieving the placement of the 3rd,Infantry Division Monument in Arlington. He was also a member and a former secretary of the Westchester County PBA. George was a police officer in Tuckahoe for 22 years before retiring in 1975. He received the Macy Award from the Westchester County Police Association during his career. He was also a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak. In 1948, he married Virginia Wells and had three children. She died in 1966. On June 9, 1968, he married Ronnie McKeand in Tuckahoe. George is survived by his wife, Ronnie Davis of Shrub Oak; a son, George J. Davis Jr. and his wife, Betsy of Poughquag; a daughter, Cindy L. Davis and her husband, Bill Levy of Hopewell Jct; a brother, Emory Davis of Jupiter, FL; a sister, Mary DiTerlizzi of Peekskill and four grandchildren: Tad and Krista Davis and Zoe and Nora Levy. He was predeceased by a son, John Edward Davis; four brothers, Austin, Edward, Willy and Robert (Biddy) Davis; and two sisters, Marie Tuttle and Joan Evans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Thursday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Family will receive friends at the E.O. CURRY FUNERAL HOME, 313 No. James Street, Peekskill (today) Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Interment Hillside Cemetery.
