GEORGE HENRY CLARKE (CA) Died on February 8, 2015 at the age of 86 at Briton House, following a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. George was born on August 18, 1928 in Coniston, Ontario, to Charles H. Clarke and Margaret Louise Wilburn-Clarke. Following graduation from high school in Sudbury, he worked for CIBC for two years. He then entered the University of Toronto Commerce and Finance Program, graduating in 1955 and winning a Dean's Medal. He undertook articles with Price-Waterhouse Associates. On April 7th that year, he married Jane Ellen Fowler (deceased, 1986) and settled in Toronto. George's professional achievements were broad. He worked as a comptroller for the Canadian National Railway and the Scarborough and York Boards of Education and was Financial Advisor for the National Energy Board. His career culminated in many years of service as Commissioner of Finance for the City of Toronto. George was a staunch member of the Anglican Church of Canada and served in many capacities, first at St. Timothy's Church in Agincourt and later at St. Leonard's in Toronto. He is survived by his wife Sophia MacLaren Clarke, his daughters Karen (Dan McCormack), Pamela (Tom Miller, deceased), Margaret (Paul Redwood) and Patricia (Brad MacCallum), grandchildren Ryan, Michael, Justin, Christopher and Lindsey, great-grandchildren Paige and Abigael and his sister Mary Clarke-Conroy. He was predeceased by his older brother F.O. Charles Clarke, bomber pilot, 1944. George is also survived by four step- children and their families. Friends may call at the TRULL "NORTH TORONTO" FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 2704 Yonge St. (5 blocks south of Lawrence Ave.) on Wednesday from 6 until 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at ST. LEONARD'S ANGLICAN CHURCH (25 Wanless Ave., north of Lawrence, east of Yonge St.) at 11 o'clock on Thursday. Interment to follow at Pine Hills Cemetery.
