Obituary of Fred-K. Johnson


Fred Kenneth Johnson, age 81, of Lexington, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2010, in the chapel of Elkins East Chapel, with burial to follow at Pettus Cemetery. Donald Townsley will officiate. The family will receive friends noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Greer Johnson; his parents, John and Bertha Belew Johnson; his sisters, Doris Bowman and Mary Best; and his brother, John Johnson. He was a retired teacher with the Lawrence County, Tenn., Board of Education, teaching at the elementary school in Loretto, Tenn. Mr. Johnson received a BA from David Lipscomb University. He was a member of Elgin Hills Church of Christ. Mr. Johnson is survived by his children, Gene Johnson and wife, Vicki, of Rogersville, and Melissa Johnson, of Chapel Hill, Tenn.; his brothers, Bill Johnson, Middleton, Tenn., and Larry Johnson, of Lexington; his grandchildren, Amy Bassham and husband, Jeffrey, of Rogersville, and Bethany Ritter and husband, Russ, of Lexington; and his great-grandchildren, Lacey and Jase Bassham, and Addison Ritter. Donations or memorials may be made in Mr. Johnson's name to United Cerebral Palsy of Northwest Alabama, 4212 Jackson Highway, Sheffield, AL 35660.
