Frankie DavisMrs. Frankie Davis was born Aug. 5, 1924, in the Ricks Community near Leighton, Alabama. She was the youngest daughter of the late Johnnie and Samantha Mullins. Preceding her in death were eight of her ten siblings, four brothers, Ricks Mullins, Jimmy Ward Mullins, Willie Flem Mullins and Clifford Mullins; and four sisters, Corine Shelby, Ola Pearl Parks, Otelia Long, and Dorothy Wesley.Frankie received her elementary and high school education at Leighton Training School and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tenn. and her teaching certification from Alabama A&M University in Normal, Alabama. Her first job was teaching home economics in Lawrence County, and in 1963, she was hired at Cherokee Colored High School. She began teaching elementary school with the first grade at Trenholm and then at Southside and was later transferred to the fifth grade at Northside, where she retired after three decades as an educator in the Alabama Public School System.In June of 1951, she married George F. Davis. They were married for thirty-seven years, and to this union one daughter was born. July 22nd of this year marked the 25th anniversary of his death.For seventy years, she was a faithful member of High Street Church of Christ, where she taught the Intermediate Sunday School class and Vacation Bible School for a number of years. She loved attending Ladies Bible Class and other activities such as the annual church picnic, Senior Citizens Day and Ladies Day programs at High Street and other congregations. Frankie loved good speaking!Mrs. Davis was a member of the Tennessee State Alumni Association and AEA/NEA.She leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her life one daughter, Jennifer Davis Daniels, and a son-in-law, Larry B. Daniels, of Houston, Tx.; one granddaughter, Candace N. Daniels of Los Angeles, Ca.; one brother, Alfred Mullins of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Gladys Hicks of Waukegan, Ill.; two sisters-in- law, Mary Alice (Thomas) Grant and Celeste (Jerry) Key; nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, great-great nephews, great-great nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.Frankie had a special bond with Otelia's children who grew up and lived nearby: Jean and her family, Bro. Boy (Mansel) and Jon. After the death of her beloved husband, she took care of her great-great niece, Leslie Minor, until her health began to fail.Included in her family are her loving and devoted caregivers, who were a true blessing. Ms. Debbie King (13 years), Ms. Rose Johnson, and Ms. Tannie Johnson. Because of their care and compassion, Mrs. Davis was able to continue to live in her home, where she died two days after celebrating her 89th birthday. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Thompson and Son Funeral Home in Tuscumbia. Funeral Services will be Monday, August 12th at 1 p.m. at High Street Church of Christ, with Bro. Michael Roberts, Officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 12. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
