Frances Herrington Smith - HINESVILLE - Frances Herrington Smith, 86, passed away Thursday, February 21 at home with family by her side after a long illness. Mrs. Smith was born February 15, 1927 to the late Glenn Willard and Aurelia Roberta Ollie ((Rogers) Herrington in Waynesboro, Georgia. She moved to Hawkinsville, Georgia at an early age and graduated from Hawkinsville High. Mrs. Smith received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Education from Georgia Teacher's College now known as Georgia Southern University. In 1946 she married the late Thomas Jennings Smith and they made Hinesville, Georgia their home. Mrs. Smith taught in the public school system for over 41 years and retired in 1989. She was a 3 time president of the Georgia Association of Educators. Mrs. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church, the Friendship Fidelity Sunday School Class where she assisted in teaching, a member of the Jubilee Singers Adult Choir and the Goldenheirs. She was a master bridge player and teacher with memberships in the American Contract Bridge League and a local bridge club. Mrs. Smith was a charter member and former president of the Moonflower Garden Club, member of the V.F.W., American Legion, life member of the Purple Heart and Disabled American Veteran auxiliaries. She was a former member of the Cherokee Rose Country Club, YMCA and a Pink Lady Volunteer at Liberty Regional, who also volunteered with the March of Dimes for more than 25 years. Survivors: daughter and son in law Jan and John Hayes of Carnesville, GA.; brother Thomas Herrington of Hawkinsville, GA.; grandson and wife Justin W. and Andrea Smith; granddaughters Katherine Lee Hayes and Ashley C. Hayes; great grandchildren Dylan Craig Smith and Gavin Thomas Smith; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 4 pm to 6:00 pm at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington. Funeral services will be Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Broughman and Rev. Steve Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Flemington Presbyterian Cemetery. Pallbearers: Paul Zechman, Glen Herrington, Scott Crump, Peter Jones, Christopher Foster, Eddie Smith, Steve Sikes and Gill Sikes. Honorary Pallbearers: Tommy Herrington, Harry Joe Dasher, Dennis Grice and members of Friendship Fidelity Sunday School Class, Bridge Club and Canasta Club Members, Red Hats and Goldenheirs. Remembrances: The family has requested that remembrances be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 220 East Memorial Drive, Hinesville, Georgia 31313. Thomas L.
