POULTNEY - Mrs. Frances Mae Carter, 91, died Friday morning, December 18, 2009, at her son's home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, after a long illness.Frances was born October 15, 1918, in Whitehall, New York, the daughter of the late William B. and Lucy (Shaw) Holcomb. Frances married the love of her life, Mr. Lorenzo "Ace" Carter in East Poultney, Vermont on March 24, 1940. The couple made their home in Poultney for many years and was very active within their community. "Ace" predeceased his wife in 1995.Frances was employed as a seamstress at the Poultney Dress Shop for several years until her retirement. Frances was a member of the Poultney Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, taught Sunday school and also as chairperson of the Deaconate Board. After the formation of the United Baptist Church of Poultney, she continued her membership with the church and was a very loyal worker with the Dorcas Society of the church.She is survived by her son, Gary R. Carter-Fish and her son-in-law, Ronald E. Carter-Fish of Myrtle Beach, So. Carolina; her grandson, Dakota Lynn Robert Carter-Fish of Myrtle Beach and her adopted grandson, Christopher Furrow, also of Myrtle Beach, also several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her two sisters, Myrtle Tanner and Mabel Ruby; and her five brothers, Elwin, William, Robert, George and Walter Holcomb.At France's request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral service at this time.A Graveside Service and burial will be held at a later date in Poultney Cemetery, with the date and time of the service printed in the Rutland Herald.Memorial Contributions in memory of Frances may be offered to the United Baptist Church of Poultney Restoration Fund, P.O.
