AUGUSTA -- Frances I. Clark, 95, of Eastern Avenue, Augusta, and formerly of the Clark Road, South China, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was born at the family homestead in South China on Jan. 3, 1910, the daughter of Charles B. Clark and Mary H. (Pray) Clark. The Clark family was among the first settlers of China.Frances was a graduate of Erskine Academy of South China.Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Augusta General Hospital (now MaineGeneral Medical Center) for several years. She previously worked on the family farm for many years.Frances was a former member of the Quaker Church in Vassalboro.She loved horses and St. Bernards. She was an avid horse person who rode horses for many years. Frances was a woman with the pioneer spirit, having few modern conveniences at home. She was still able to keep informed on current affairs.There are no known surviving relatives. A committal service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Chadwick Hill Cemetery, South China.
