->Frances Glenn Miller1923 - 2015WHITEFIELD - Frances Glenn Miller, 91, of Whitefield, passed away on April 4, 2015, of natural causes.Frances was born in Petitcodiac, New Brunswick, Canada, to Alfred and Minnie Colpitts Mann on July 8, 1923. She graduated from Gardiner High School in 1941 and went on to earn her LPN and was a nurse for most of her life. She worked at Maine General, AMHI, VA Togus, Gardiner General, and nursing homes throughout the area.Frances enjoyed comradery in all her club activities. She was a member of Arlington Grange Whitefield, AARP Chapter 511 Augusta/Gardiner, Queen Esther order of Eastern Star in Hallowell, RB Capen Rebecca Augusta, Chelsea Senior Citizens, Lincoln County Palmona Grange, Arbutus Grange Surry, and Goodwill Circle Chelsea.Frances met her husband Charles Miller when she was 69. Although she didn't meet the love of her life until what some would consider a time to wind down, Frances was still vital and took the opportunity to travel the country with her husband. They visited national parks including the Grand Canyon, took a train trip across the US, and visited Franklin Roosevelt's summer house on Campobello Island. They had a love for camping and would take their RV all over Maine and Canada with their granddaughter Nicole Deschamps. They also visited the history rich museums in Washington, D.C., and would meet with sitting Senators while in D.C.Frances was naturalized, and later in life when she became a citizen, she immediately registered to vote. She took her citizenship seriously, and had a passion for politics. She truly understood, and grasped that democracy is something one has to work at, and fight for. She was always committed to a cause, would picket for the underdog, and would speak her convictions with a smile. She often would engage her grandson William Blueher in political discussions; she had tea with the Governor, worked on the Kennedy campaign, and contributed to many political events. She had a knack for landing in unusual situations starting at the age of four when Clarence Demar, a seven time winner of the Boston Marathon, used to train with her on his shoulders. She also spent her lifetime corresponding with the Queen of England, and it would not be uncommon to have letters in her mailbox from prominent royal and political figures. She met John Kennedy, and before introducing herself he already knew of her. She worked on numerous political campaigns including Kennedy's, and Muskie's. Because of an error in her license renewal the then Secretary of State Dan Gwadosky personally hand delivered her license to her at her 75th birthday party.Frances also had a love for cooking, which was a passion she acquired from her mother who used to cook for Governor Muskie. She was well known for her mincemeat pies. She gave more than she took, and would often bake large quantities of pies and casseroles to help others. She was a natural giver, and it wouldn't be unusual for her to make 60 wreaths for a nursing home during the holidays so there would be a wreath on every door.Frances had a love for dinner parties or any party in general. Her husband Charles was a Commander of the Masons and they would often travel to attend events. Frances arranged for her sons to perform a dance to the song YMCA by the Village People at several of the events. She loved the fireworks, and was very proud of her son Steven's fireworks business and would follow his shows with her lifelong friend Mary and Mary's husband Ed Emerson. In memory of Frances, her family requests that anyone's life she impacted commit one act of kindness on April 8.
