->BANGOR - Frances Fern (Foss) Smith, 98, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Sorrento. Born Feb. 1, 1915, in Moscow, the daughter of Lloyd S. and Eunice (Nottage) Foss, she moved to Bangor as a young girl and lived there for the rest of her life.Her husband of 52 years, Frank F. Smith, passed away in 1989. She was also predeceased by her sister, Myrna Skofield Austin; and three brothers, Kern, Paul and Carl Foss. Frances is survived by daughter, Martha J. Glass and husband, David, of Sorrento; son, Donald A. Smith and wife, Betty, of Tom's River, N.J.; five grandchildren, Michell L. Boynton Colby of Jaffrey, N.H., Darrell W. Glass of Pembroke, N.H., Ann Frances Yao of Goffstown, N.H., Mary C. Rotante of Norwalk, Conn., and Daniel A. Smith of Austin, Texas; 13 great-grandchildren; three nieces; two nephews; and special family friend, Murchie Martin. A graduate of Bangor High School, Frances is known by many from her years of work in the dental office of Edmond Laing, D.M.D. Along with husband Frank, she was a long time member of Bangor Grange and a casual bridge player with the same group of friends for more than 50 years.The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments noon-2 p.m. Monday, April 22, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
