Obituary of Frances-D. Williams


Frances Duncan Williams passed away from this earth Feb. 9, 2011. Frances was born June 22, 1925, in Huntsville, Ala.Frances was known as "Jimmye" to many, a nickname derived from her middle name, James, after her father. Frances was a devoted wife, mother and church member. She was married to the late Dr. George Y. Williams for 57 years. Together they served in numerous churches through the years.Frances recently was presented with a plaque by the 12th Street Baptist Church Adult Choir for 43 years of membership in the Chancel Choir. She loved many types of music and was an accomplished soprano and pianist. She loved song birds and was a "birder" for more than 40 years. She enjoyed humor and performed comedic skits at various functions.Frances graduated from Florence State University and majored in voice at Southern Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., where she met George Y. She also worked in Washington, D.C., during World War II, contributing to the national war effort.Frances is survived by her son, Keith R. Williams; daughter, Keri Collins (Travis); grandchildren, Landon (Erin), Brennan and Grant Collins, Ellen and Katy (Mei Mei) Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, and a service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14. Visitation and services will be at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at Greenview Cemetery, Florence, Ala.
