Obituary of Florence-M. Mathieu


MATHIEU Florence M. Mathieu, age 95, wife of the late Joseph Mathieu, died on Sunday, November 7, 2004, in Fairfield. Born in Quebec, Canada, she lived most of her life in West Hartford before moving to Fairfield three years ago. Florence was known to her family as an extraordinarily kind and loving person who was strong in her faith. She is survived by a son, Robert J. Mathieu and his wife, Maura, of West Hartford; a daughter, Madeleine Gauthier of Fairfield; six grandchildren: Diane Gauthier of Stratford, Therese DeSilva of the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, Jacqueline LaPierre of Stratford, Sarah Galluzzo of Fairfield, Joseph B. Mathieu of Colchester, and Elizabeth Buczynski of Washington, D.C.; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road, and at 10 a.m in St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield with a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be private. Friends may call on Tuesday (TUESDAY) from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Mathieu's memory to Mercy Housing and Shelter, 211 Wethersfield Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106.
