CARTER _ Florence Joan (JD and Nan), 1924 - 2007, at age 83, surrounded by her loved ones, passed away peacefully at UBC Hospital. Joan's entire life was dedicated to her husband and her children. She will be missed and loved for eternity. These last few weeks have been a complete celebration of everything she stood for in her life- dedication to family and friends. Her vivacious spirit and lust for life touched everyone. She taught her family to be the best they could be. Joan will always be remembered and loved by Vic (Poor) her great husband of 35 years and by her daughters Paddy Donaldson, Cathy Denroche Browne, Hilary Kennedy, Gretchen Goodliffe, Adrienne Radford and her sons Peter Denroche, Buzz Denroche, and all spouses. She will also never be forgotten by her 17 grandchildren and her 8 great-grandchildren. JD as she loved to be called, was the first WRCN (Woman's Royal Canadian Navy) in Montreal during the Second World War. After her first husband Denis Denroche, one of the first coastal pilots of BC Airlines, passed away in 1957, she raised her 4 children, became an outstanding school teacher and for the next 14 years, studied and obtained her Bachelor degree at night school at UBC. She fell in love with Vic Carter and was married in 1972. The family of four became seven and her family was exceptionally close and totally in love. JD was one of the founding members of the Arbutus Club in Vancouver. She and Vic spent 3 days per week up until May of this year working out in the gym to keep in fabulous shape. She had many, many friends throughout her entire life, loved to travel with Vic around the world, loved to cook, sew, learn different languages and just be a fabulous parent and wife. The family would like to thank the tremendous staff at the hospital at UBC who gave not only fabulous care and support, but also fell in love with JD (Mum) during the last 6 weeks of her life. The memorial service will be held at the Arbutus Club and will be announced within the next while. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Canuck Place Children's Hospice.
