Florence Jaques, born in 1926, daughter of John and Catherine, died on November 11, 2009 at 83 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
JAQUES Florence Jaques passed away peacefully in Regina on Nov. 11, 2009 at age 83. Born in Barbour in east-central Saskatchewan on Nov. 8, 1926, Florence was predeceased by her parents John and Catherine, her brothers Jack and Leonard, and her sister Marion. She is survived by her brother Norman of Kitchener and loving sister Phyllis (Carman) Beatty of Victoria. While Florence never married, or had children of her own, she was deeply generous to her extended family and was regarded as everyone's favourite aunt by her many nieces and nephews, and their children, who are left to mourn her passing. An intelligent, articulate woman, Florence trained as a teacher, but spent most of her working life as an office employee with several international corporations. Her biggest passion was reading, and during her retirement years she was delighted to discover a family connection to Canadian poet Edna Jaques. Florence was a loyal supporter of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and in the early '50s had a poem of her own published in the Leader-Post where she playfully refuted a Winnipeg sportswriter's claim that the Glenn Dobbs-led Roughriders were inferior to the Blue Bombers under their star QB Jack Jacobs. Florence also followed the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs, and enjoyed an all-star reputation in the family as a baker (her butter tarts, gingerbread men, smartie cookies and buns were especially prized). No funeral service is planned, but a memorial celebration of Florence's life will be held next summer. Florence spent her final four years as a resident of Santa Maria Senior Citzens Home, and her nephew Gregory and niece Sharon would like to thank the attendants, nurses and other staff at the home for the care and consideration they showed Florence during her stay. Friends and family who wish may make donations, in memoriam, to Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home, 4215 Regina Ave., Regina, S4S 0J5.
