JAY -- Felix A. Jacques, 56, of Jay died on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 3, 2005, at his home surrounded by his loving family following a 31Ú2-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).He was born on Jan. 26, 1949, in Farmington, the son of Rosario "Babe" and Celina (Gallant) Jacques.He graduated from Livermore Falls High School and Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute. On Aug. 8, 1988, he married Sharon (Cook) Gonyea in Las Vegas, Nev. Felix was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. He was a longtime member of the Jay/Livermore Falls Hunting Club and the "200" Club. He was on the board of directors of the Maine Labor Group on Health, and was a former vice president of the Maine Labor Council and the Maine AFL-CIO.Prior to his employment at International Paper, he was employed by Lawrence McNear as a carpenter, and worked with his brother, Roland, installing swimming pools.He also was employed at Foss' Jewelry Store in Livermore Falls for a number of years. He was a proud union member and former president of Local 14 in Jay. At the time of his illness, he was an International representative of the United Steel Workers (Pace International, Area 1). He was a former secretary and executive vice president of Local 14 in Jay.Felix is best described as a "definite people person." He made friends easily and enjoyed talking to everyone.His one passion was his 1970 Chevy Yenko, which was his pride and joy. He also enjoyed ice fishing, bird-watching, boating and snowmobiling at the family camp in New Hampshire. Everyone was always welcome there.In addition to his wife, Sharon, of Jay, Felix is survived by his sons, Peter and Paul, both of Rindge, N.H.; his siblings and their spouses, Norman Jacques, Pauline Fournier, Patty and Ed Doiron, Roger and Barbara Jacques, Gloria Jacques, Theresa Pomeroy, Ann and Barry Hammond, and Celina and Brent Gay; his stepson, Jason and and his wife, Lindsay Gonyea; a special little neighbor, Brianna; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Ronald, Peter, Roland and Bernard; one sister, Jeannine; and his stepson Klein Lowell IV.Family and friends are invited to call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 308 Franklin Road (Route 133), Jay.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at St. Rose of Lima Church, Jay, with the Rev. Roger Chabot officiating. Following a committal service at Holy Cross Cemetery, Livermore Falls, all are invited to a family reception and comfort meal at the Lane Dube AMVETS Post 33, Route 4, Jay.Those who desire may give gifts in his memory to ALS Northern New England Chapter, The Champlain Mill 13, Winooski, VT 05404.
