Faye Harris Johnson Longtime Tallahassee resident Faye Harris Johnson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, entered into final rest with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 25, 2009, at the age of 97. By her bedside were her son Charles E. Johnson Jr. and friend Kay Gluesenkamp, son Harris E. Johnson and wife Sheila.She was preceded in death by her husband C.E. "Gene" Johnson, who was the longtime manager of McCrory's 5&10 Cent Store in Tallahassee; son Ronald "Ron" Clifton Johnson; and grandson Edward Johnson. She leaves behind a devoted family, Charles Johnson, Harris and Sheila Johnson and former daughter-in-law, Wynona Johnson; four grandsons, Charles E. Johnson III (and wife Millie) of Palm Bay, Fla., Eldrid Johnson of Tallahassee, Estes Johnson (and wife Katie) of Port Orange, Fla., R. Christopher Johnson (and wife Denise) of Melbourne, Fla.; three great-granddaughters Kaitlin Johnson Dodd of Tallahassee and Victoria and Alexandra Johnson of Melbourne, Fla. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lions Club, charter member of the Tallahassee Elkettes, Tallahassee Garden Club, Retired Nurses' Association, supporter of FSU football and longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church.She was born on March 27, 1912, in Enigma, Georgia, and lived there until she entered and graduated from the University Hospital School of Nursing in Augusta, Georgia, on June 30, 1933. While nursing in Valdosta, Georgia, she met and married the love of her life, Gene Johnson. In 1942 they moved to Tallahassee, where she continued her nursing career as supervisor of the operating room at Dale Mabry Field Army Hospital.She also nursed at the Forsyth Hospital before moving to the newly constructed Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in the 1950s. Later in her career, she specialized in private duty nursing and caring for several of Florida's governors and dignitaries. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. EDT Friday, May 29, at Roselawn Cemetery, Piedmont Drive.Culley's MeadowWood Riggins Road Funeral Home (850-877-8191) is handling arrangements.
