Obituary of Frances Carter

FRANCES "JOAN" CARTER HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - Frances "Joan" Carter, 82, of Hendersonville, died on Friday morning, Sept. 18, 2009, in the Elizabeth House. She was born on April 5, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of the late William H. and Frances Katz Oulsnam. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Lawrence David Carter who died on Dec. 18, 2006. Joan graduated from Garfield Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1949, and retired as a Nurse Practitioner in 1994. She was a member of the Ladies 9Hole Golf League and was an avid golfer. Joan was also a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed playing Bunco with her friends. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ralph H. Carter; two sons, William B. Carter and his wife Maggie Bingham of Irvine, Calif., and Mark A. Carter and his wife Janis of Beaufort, S.C.; two daughters, Patty Curtis and her husband Ray Curtis Jr. of Hinesburg, Vt., and Kathy Dunn and her husband Dana of Charlotte, Vt.; a daughterin-law, Mollie Carter of Salina, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, in Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel.
