HARDIN, Evin Groverd Michel May 18, 1954 - January 8, 2011Passed away with courage and dignity after a brutal fight with cancer that Evin tackled with his usual indomitable will and humour. Evin is survived by his beloved wife, Tanis, by siblings Alfield, Arvid (Bernice), Annice (Terry), Darrell, (Netty), Father-in-Law Nick, brother-in-law Nick, by nieces and nephews Brenda, Julie, Warren, Jonathan, Trent, Brett, Eric, Annika, Karl and Jacob, by great nieces and nephews, Jessica, Ashley, Molly, Jack, Tomas, Finn, Knute, and Erika, and extended family. From an early age Evin was known for building, inventing, and exploring. There was nothing Evin couldn't build or design. He once built a working submarine with his friend, Peter Mitten. Evin's career in Project and Construction Management took him to many fascinating places, some examples are the CIDA project at Madura Oya in Sri Lanka, Oktedi in Papua New Guinea, Dar es Salaam and Lake Victoria in Tanzania, Guyana, Izmir, Istanbul and Ankara in Turkey, Australia, Vietnam and the UK. Closer to home, Evin was involved with construction of the Pitt River Bridge, the Cassiar Connector, the Alex Fraser Bridge, De Beers Snap Lake Diamond Project, and Goldcorp's Red Lake Mine among many others. He was a private pilot, an accomplished scuba diver, certified mechanic, fine furniture maker, sailor, metal worker, motorcycle racer, tennis player, antique toy collector and enthusiastic world traveller, among other things. He loved offbeat movies, music, cats, new and different cultures, friends, family, and adventure. Evin found the love of his life, his true love, wife and partner Tanis, and she was the centre of his world, as he was hers. His family- siblings, nephews, nieces and friends had the pleasure of his invention, humour, boundary-pushing, exploring, story-telling, advice, humanity, and compassion. He is sorely missed. Memorial service to be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 1pm at Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel: 11969 - 216th St. in Maple Ridge. Following the service, refreshments will be served at 3:30 pm, at Swan-e-set Bay Resort and Country Club: 16651 Rannie Road, Pitt Meadows. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue www.orphankittenrescue.com , or the charity of your choice.
