BELLOWS FALLS -- Everett “Gurnsey” Hammond, 76, of Hapgood Street, died early Monday, April 5, 2004, at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, N.H. Mr. Hammond was born Oct. 26, 1927, in Bellows Falls, the son of Roger Sr. and Zeona (Fiske) Hammond. He was a graduate of Bellows Falls High School and went on to complete two years at American International College in Springfield, Mass. He was a terminal manager at St. Johnsbury Trucking in Westminster. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954. He was a member of the American Legion Post 37 and was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, both in Bellows Falls.On Sept. 5, 1955, he married Ann Houlihan who predeceased him. Mr. Hammond is survived by his daughter, Stephanie A. H. Mitchell of Westminster West; his brother, Prentice Hammond of Bartonsville; his sister, Patricia Olin of Florida, and nieces and nephews. He is also predeceased by his brother, Roger Hammond, Jr., and his parents.Calling hours will be held Sunday evening, April 11, from 7-9 p.m. at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, April 12, at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls. Burial will be held at a later date.u
