Evelyn Smith Evelyn May Smith, 91, of the Jordan Lifecare Center and formerly Salisbury passed away peacefully on Saturday July 12, 2008 at her residence. Born in Salisbury she was the wife of the late Earle F. Smith and the daughter of the late Kenneth and Mary (Bleakney) Campbell. Evelyn spent most of her life giving her time and talents to help make her community a better place. She assisted at monthly Public Health Baby Clinics for 39 years; volunteered at the Public Library; served as President and Secretary of the former Salisbury Women's Institute; was a former board member and secretary of Pine Hill Cemetery Inc. and a member of the Westmorland Co. Children's Aid Society for many years. She was also Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary Canadian Legion Branch # 31; helped to organize the Salisbury Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society and was Campaign Chairperson for Salisbury and surrounding area for 40 years and was also the Memorial Chairperson. She served as Clerk-Treasurer for the Salisbury Local Improvement District and Incorporated Village for 25 years. In 1977 she received the Governor-General's Medal for Community Service and was honoured by the Village of Salisbury for 45 years of Community Service in 1989. She will be sadly missed by her son, Rand (Carolyn); grandchildren, Shelley Jones (Edward), Christine Smith all of Salisbury and Scott (Kelly) of Lower Coverdale; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Survived also by sisters, Grace Grills, Belleville On., Veta Westcott (Gene), Havelock On., Jean Gourley (Ernest), River Glade, Joyce Prosser , Salisbury; brothers, John Campbell (Kaye), Sussex, Jerry Campbell (Diane), River Glade. Predeceased by her parents; husband, Earle; sisters, Madeline Crandall, Marguerite Aylward, Geraldine Cormier; brother, Robert Campbell. Resting at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with visiting Monday 7-9 p.m. and from where the service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday July 15 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Interment will be at Pine Hill Cemetery. Memorials if desired to the Canadian Cancer Society, Jordan Lifecare Center or Pine Hill Cemetery would be appreciated. www.keirsteads.ca
