JOHNSON, Evelyn Mae JOHNSON, Evelyn Mae - 101, Greenwood, formerly of Glace Bay, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at the home of her daughter, Sandra, in the company of family. Evelyn was born in Gloucester, Mass., on July 23, 1906, a daughter of the late Stephen and Emma (Shattler) Buckland. In 1913 the family returned to Canada, and took up residence in Glace Bay. A graduate of the Empire Business College, Evelyn was employed as an office accountant with F. W. Woolworth & Co., Sydney, and was actively involved in charitable work in the Glace Bay area. She was a voracious reader of all forms of literature, and had a passion for politics and current events. She enjoyed bridge, cribbage, and playing the piano. She was also an enthusiastic fan of the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Blue Jays, revelling in their World Series wins. Above all, she loved her family and friends, and we will always remember her kind and thoughtful ways. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; sisters, Lillian Turner and Anna Gillard, and brother, Albert, and is survived by her sister, Nita Rafuse, Petawawa, Ont. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by daughter, Sandra Irwin, Greenwood; sons, Lorne (June) Johnson, Trenton, Ont.; Carl Johnson, St. Catharines, Ont.; her loving grandchildren, Joanne (Paul) Tupper, Bedford; Susan (Mike) Frenette, Hammonds Plains; Stuart (Anne) Johnson, Kingston, Ont.; Anne (Andrew Prior) Johnson, Ottawa, Ont.; Steven Johnson, Toronto, Ont.; Lenorre (Stuart) Saraquse, Laguna Niguel, Calif., and precious great-grandchildren, Liam, Josie, Beatrix, Sophie, Blayke, and Beren. Honouring our mother's wishes, there will not be a funeral. A family graveside service with interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Glace Bay, in late June.
