Evelyn M. Higgins of Toms River, N.J., died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Visiting will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River, N.J. A Mass to celebrate Evelyn's life will be Thursday, 10 a.m. at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 684 Hooper Ave., Toms River. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., Elizabeth lived in Union, N.J., before moving to Toms River in 1952. She was a winter resident of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., since 1978. Mrs. Higgins was a communicant of St. Joseph R.C. Church, Toms River, past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Toms River Yacht Club, past president of the Ladies Golf Group of the Toms River Country Club, where she was Ladies Club Champion in 1966 and 1967, a member of the Manasquan River Golf Club, Brielle, N.J., and a member of the Palm Beach Gardens Golf Club. She played league basketball in Elizabeth and also played basketball in high school. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Thomas P., in 1994; her parents, Mary and Harry McGrail; a brother, Harry McGrail, and her sisters, Frances Connelly, Mary English and Genevieve Koepke. Surviving are her two nieces and a nephew, Joan English, Virginia Migliori and John English. She is also survived by a grandnephew, Robert Migliori.
