Evelyn Ring Cummings Johnson 1931 - 2008 CANANDAIGUA/NEWARK - Evelyn Johnson, 76, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at her home in Canandaigua. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Church, 325 S. Main St., Newark. Burial will follow in Newark Cemetery. Evelyn was born Aug. 22,1931 in Newark and was the daughter Frederic and Margaret Parys Ring. After graduating from Newark High School in 1949, Evie left her hometown to pursue a job in modeling. This eventually led to an exciting, adventure-filled career as a flight attendant for Colonial Airlines, of which she was most proud. She left the airlines to marry and raise her family in Waltham, Mass. Following the untimely death of her first husband, Willis A. Cummings, in 1972, she re-entered the workforce as a secretary, first for Plympton Elementary School in Waltham and then Learning Prep School in Newton, Mass. Evie married her longtime friend, Roger L. Johnson, Sr., in 1998 and happily spent her remaining years residing in Canandaigua. She had a creative and artistic mind that loved beautiful things and had an eye for fashion and interior decorating. Evie enjoyed knitting, embroidery and going antiquing. She was an avid reader and gardener who enjoyed flowers of all kinds but had a special affinity for roses. Evie was most at peace at home with her husband, surrounded by her gardens, wild birds and beautiful views of beloved Canandaigua Lake. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Roger; children, Laura R. (William) Cummings of Millbury, Mass., Kenneth M. Cummings of Newark and Stuart W. Cummings of Boulder, Colo.; stepchildren, Jacqueline A. Johnson and Roger L. (Carol) Johnson Jr., both of Newark; grandsons, Steven W. Cummings and William M. Fennelly; six step-grandchildren; sister, MaryJane Burke of Richmond, Va.; godchild, Dianna (Robert) Irby; two nieces; and three nephews.
