JOHNSON, Evelyn L., 91, passed December 7, 2006. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, she attended Antioch College before marring Wagner B. Johnson of Live Oak, Fla., and moving to Florida in the early 30s, settling into Tampa and the Wellswood subdivision in 1946. She was widowed in 1949. She opened and ran a kindergarten from her home from 1950 to 1987. She felt strongly enough that kindergartens should be licensed and the people who ran them were trained and educated that she was a founding member and past president of the Hillsborough County Association for Children Under Six. She attended Florida State University, taking courses in early childhood education. Her sister, Marion Pyotsia, and her three sons, Norman Johnson of Riverview, Douglas Johnson of Newberry, Fla., and their families, and Richard Johnson of Tampa survive her. A celebration of her life will take place 10 a.m.-2 p.m. January 20,2 007, at her home at 930 Cornelius Ave., Tampa.
