Patterson, EuniceEunice (Hurd) Patterson, age 86, of Sun City Center, FL, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, October 19, 2012. She was the beloved wife of Edward T. Patterson. Born October 30, 1925 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Ralph G. and Margaret (Mullins) Hurd, she was a resident of Fairfield for over 72 years. She attended the Fairfield public schools, including Roger Ludlowe High School (Class of '43) where she was noted for her friendliness, warmth, sincerity and zany sense of humor. Her classmates voted her Class Cut-up for her life-long belief that "laughter was truly the best medicine". On May 29, 1948, Eunice married Edward T. Patterson, and embarked on a 64 year relationship founded on the principles of love, loyalty, and laughter. In her earlier years she was employed with McKesson & Robbins, The Carolton, and was one of the area's earliest distributor of Mary Kay Cosmetics. While embracing her homemaking responsibilities, she believed in always putting family first. Her outgoing, gregarious nature lent itself to much community involvement including many years with St. Pius X Parish & School, including past President of the St. Pius Ladies Guild, the Fairfield Women's Club, past President of the Fairfield Emblem Club #389 of the Elks Lodge, a member of the Gaelic American Club, the Women's Auxiliary of the National Association of Naval Veterans Port 5, DAR of Eunice D. Burr and a volunteer with the H. L. Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. In 1997, she left Fairfield to pursue retirement in Sun City Center, FL knowing that she would one day return because "home is where the heart is". While spending time with family and friends was her favorite activity, she also enjoyed reading, sewing, antiques, and traveling. Aside from her devoted husband Edward, Eunice will be sadly missed by her five children, Margaret and her husband Dr. David Snyder of Hopkinton, NH, Thomas E. Patterson of Washington, DC, Nancy M. Patterson of Stamford, Lawrence E. Patterson of Bridgeport, and James E. Patterson of Stamford. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, Dr. Christopher Snyder and his wife Dr. Lindsey Snyder, Matthew Snyder, Esq, and Daniel Snyder, Kristin Olsen, Daniel Kowaleski, Amy Patterson, and Kaitlyn Patterson, two great grandchildren Will and Audrey Snyder. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Ralph G. Hurd, Jr. and Dorothy (Woodford) Hurd of San Francisco, CA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Fairfield. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetary, Fairfield.
