Eugene Robert Brennan, 80, of West Orange, N.J., passed away on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at the Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main St., West Orange, at 8:30 a.m. Then to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Ave. in West Orange for the Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Ave. in East Hanover, N.J. Visiting will be Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. Letters of condolence may be posted at danglerfuneralhome.com. Gene was born in Orange, N.J., and was a lifelong resident of West Orange. He was a troop leader with the West Orange Troop 2 Boy Scouts, a New Jersey arms collector, and a member of the National Rifle Association. Mr. Brennan proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, and was a lifetime member of the Roseland VFW Post Number 2619. He was past president of the New Jersey Shade Tree Federation, past president of the New Jersey Arborist Association, and a New Jersey certified tree expert, CTE 143. Eugene was the beloved husband of 51 years of Grace Brennan (nee Barr); devoted father of Eugene M. Brennan and his wife, Barbara, Elizabeth Meleas and her husband, Theodore, and step-father to George Barbaz and his wife, Barbara; loving brother of the late John J. Brennan; brother-in-law to Margaret "Peggy" Brennan; cherished grandfather of Alec, Caitlyn and Spiros; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
