A memorial service for Mr. Eugene (Gene) Eldon Carter, 72, of John Anderson Dr., Ormond Beach, who passed away Monday (July 21, 2008) at Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1205 Ridgewood Ave, Holly Hill with Pastor Frederick Schultz officiating. Mr. Carter was born in Shelby County, Iowa and moved to this area in 2001 from Coon Rapids, Iowa with his wife, Sally. He was a retired owner / operator of a large green house and nursery operation in western Iowa. He was also a former president of the Coon Rapids Rotary and a true entrepreneur. Eugene had great pleasure in putting a plan together and following it through. An avid sports fan, he played competitive football, baseball, basketball and swimming in his youth. Eugene loved traveling with his wife in their RV all over the country, especially to Alaska. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and time spent on the water with family and friends, as well as helping others in need. In lieu of other remembrances the family suggests donations be made to the Salvation Army of Iowa for the flood victims of 2008. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sally; two sons and their wives, Michael and Debbie of Coon Rapids, Iowa and Monte and Dory of Breda, Iowa; and two grandsons, Jonathan Carter and Ian Carter.
