CARTER, Eugene and Evie Eugene Carter, age 87 and Evie Kinslow Carter, age 83. December 18, 2008 in a fire at their Lebanon Highway home. Married in August of 1977. Eugene, former South Carthage City Councilman and Coastguard veteran of World War II. He is survived by sons, Kenneth B. Carter and wife Pat of Mapleton, Minnesota and Ronald Gene Carter of Santa Cruz, CA; brother, L.B. Carter and wife Syble of Gordonsville; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren. Eugene was born in Granville in Jackson County. The son of the late Andy and Lola Hardcastle Carter. Also preceded in death by brothers, Willie "Bill" Carter and Carl "Smoky" Carter. Evie was the owner of Evie's Hairstylist in Carthage for 48 years and member of Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church. She is survived by two sons, Larry Kinslow and wife Lana of Carthage, Phillip Kinslow and wife Michele of Carthage; brothers, Don Presley and wife Joy of Lebanon, Robert Presley and wife Eula of Dibrell; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. Evie was born in Temperance Hall in DeKalb County. The daughter of the late Roy and Shellie Lawrence Bates Presley Kelley. Also preceded in death by sisters, twin Eve Bates and Lorene Martin; brothers, Hobert Lee, Alton and Clarence Bates, Joseph Presley. Joint funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., Tuesday from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home with Elder Michael Hill officiating. Pallbearers: Family and Friends. Interment for Eugene in the Granville Cemetery. Interment for Evie in Smith County Memorial Gardens.
