Ethel Inez Russell Smith, 99, of 106 Piedmont Street, died Monday, February 25, 2008, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.Born in Norfolk, Va. in 1908, Mrs. Smith was retired from Beacon Mfg., where she worked in the packaging department. She was a member of Westminster First Baptist Church and had attended the Ladies Adult Sunday School Class. For many years, she was affiliated with Waters Cafe.Surviving are son, Herman "Mutt" Smith and wife, Maree, of Piedmont; daughters, Louise Osborne of Westminster and Jeanette Alongi and husband, Jack, of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Juanita Cappo of Anderson; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.Her husband, Garnett James Smith, and parents, Sam and Emma Dipple Russell, brother, Carl Russell and son-in-law, Slim Osborne precede her in death.Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2008, in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home, Westminster. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at the funeral home. The family is at the residence. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made in Mrs. Smith's memory to Westminster First Baptist Church Bldg. Fund, 426 West Oak Hwy, Westminster, SC 29693.
