Ester-Whatley Smith, spouse of Vernon Smith, mother of Augusta and Irma Jean, died on December 18, 2012.
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Ester Whatley Smith, wife of the late Vernon Smith, entered into rest at NHC Health Care on Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 11 a.m. at First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with Rev. Eugene Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Memorial Garden. Mrs. Smith, a native of Ferriday, LA, retired as a cook at Lake Lodge Restaurant, Georgia War Veterans Nurse, and the Fort Gordon Dining Facility. As a longtime, faithful member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, she served on the Willing Workers Club. Survivors are her daughter, Irma Jean (Eddie) Outlaw, Augusta; stepdaughter, Dorothy Leonard, Ferriday, LA; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Carrie Washington, Mary Boyd, Toledo, OH, Josephine Shephard, Ida Davis, Columbia, LA; special friend, Natalie Hamilton, Augusta; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
