Former Kapuskasing mayor, Esten Frederick (Fred) Davis passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Aug. 13, 2003, with his family by his side. He was born in Shelbourne, ON. Later, his parents moved to Toronto where attended school, including Shaw Business College. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers - 1941/1945 overseas. Mr. Davis came to Kapuskasing to work for Spruce Falls Power & Paper Co. Ltd. where he married his wife, Lena. While there he was President of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 85, and was later made a life member. He also served on town council before being elected mayor. He was transferred to the Toronto office of Spruce Falls and moved with his family to Mississauga in 1972. After retiring from Spruce Falls in 1983, he accepted a job with the Ontario Community Newspaper Association. He finally retired in March, 1988 and moved to Calgary to be near his family. In Calgary, Mr. Davis transferred to the RCL Centennial Branch 285, where he served as second vice-president, Membership Chairman and was a proud instigator of the Unity Garden. He was a dedicated RCL member. He leaves his wife of 41 years; daughter Dianna (Paul) Langis, son Bruce Davis (Doris Haines), and his grandchildren Estée and Owen Langis. He was predeceased by his brother Flt. Sgt. George Robert Davis, R.C.A.F., and his parents, Dr. Robert Edwin Davis and Ella May Davis. A Memorial Service was held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Centennial Branch 285 (9202 Horton Road S.W.) on Aug 16. Graveside Service followed at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens, Field of Honour.
