->New London - Estelle Lillian Jackson, of New London, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011.Born in Woonsocket, R.I. on May 22, 1925, she was the only child of the late Edouard and Eugenie LaFrenaye.She graduated from Windham High School in Willimantic in 1943 and was united in marriage to John Jackson in New London, 63 years ago. He predeceased her on Dec. 2, 2009.She leaves her son, Michael D. Jackson and his wife, Cate (Provencher) Jackson, of Lee, N.H.; daughter, Patricia (Jackson) Fugueras of New London; and grandsons, Ryan Fugueras of New London and Ross Fugueras and his fiancée, Lori Rose, of Groton.Estelle loved life and lived it to the fullest. Her passions through the years included traveling on many worldwide cruises. She frequently visited local beaches, and was a member of the Mitchell Beach Club.Following retirement, after serving as office assistant at the Electric Boat in Groton from 1957 to April 1995, she volunteered at the Garde Arts Center, New London, and was a member of the Waterford Crystals, a senior dancing group. She also enjoyed playing pinochle and was an active member of a Waterford Seniors' Center pinochle group.A "people person", she was outgoing and enthusiastic and enjoyed a wide circle of friends. She became a full-out booster and follower of soccer when her son, Michael, coached soccer at Waterford High School and the women's soccer team at New Hampshire University, and faithfully followed the soccer activities of her grandsons. She was a true "soccer mom and grandma."Her wide ranging interests included the UConn Women's Basketball team, for which she was a season ticket holder for many years. She was also, in addition to reading, an avid Scrabble player and crossword puzzle fan.In addition to her loving family, she leaves behind a legion of loyal friends.Calling hours will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London.
