Essie Mae Coplin James, 89, died Jan. 2, 2013, at Treasure Coast Hospice House. She was born in Madison and lived in St. Lucie County for 61 years, coming from Greenville. She was a member of Davis Temple Heavenly Church of the First Born, where she served as church mother, deaconess and Sunday school superintendent. Survivors include her sons, Thomas Coplin Jr. of Panama City and Leon Coplin and Donnell Coplin, both of Fort Pierce; daughters, Verna Mason Grant and Idell Coplin Hogan, both of Fort Pierce; stepdaughter, Sallie James Williams of Vero Beach; stepsons, Charles James Jr. and Lorenzo James; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Coplin Sr. and Charles James Sr.; sons, Leroy Coplin and Edward Coplin; and sister, Sadie Mae Bellamy Martin. Services: Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Jan. 11 at Stone Brothers Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 12 at The House Of God #1. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
