Essie Mae Goodwin, 97, Sarasota and formerly of Palmetto, died Aug. 10, 2005. She was born Feb. 22, 1908, and was a longtime area resident. She retired as an educator from the Manatee County School System and was a member of St. Andrew's AME Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Westside Funeral Home in Palmetto. The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Raymond Full Gospel Baptist Church in Palmetto. Burial will be in Mansion Memorial Park in Ellenton.
