Smith, Ervin Leon, 65, of O'Brien died Saturday, December 1, 2001 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A native of Lineville, AL Mr. Smith had lived in O'Brien for the past five years having lived in Ft. Lauderdale for the previous thirty-five years. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Navy and also a founding member of the Sunrise Volunteer Fire Department in Sunrise, FL. Some hobbies, which Mr. Smith enjoyed, were fishing, fast pitch softball, and coaching Little League Baseball. Mr. Smith also very much enjoyed spending time with all of his family and friends. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mrs. Ina Coleen Smith of O'Brien; one son, Mr. Richard (Kimberly) Smith, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; one daughter, Cyndi (Tom) Florio, Tamarac, FL; one sister, Judy (Billy) Houck, Atlanta, GA. Four grandchildren also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be conducted Friday, December 14, 2001 in the Biggs Memorial Chapel at 11:00 AM with a visitation with the family one-hour prior to the service. Graveside committal services for Mr. Smith will be conducted Sunday, December 16, 2001 at 1:00 PM in the Barfield Cemetery in Lineville, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the South Columbia Volunteer Fire Department, Rt 2 Box 4000, Ft. White, FL 32038 in memory of Mr. Smith. Out of town arrangements are under the direction of the Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville and local arrangements are under the direction of the BIGGS FUNERAL HOME, 3801 South First Street, Lake City.
