WILLIAMS, Ernest Owen October 10, 1921 - November 1, 2011 It is with great sadness that the family of Ernest Williams announces his passing after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Ernie will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 63 years, Doreen and his children Glen (Marie), Gerry, and Joan (Marty) Erickson. He will be fondly remembered by his 9 grandchildren Shawna, Kristine (James), Owen (Amy); Dawn, Ernie, Leah; Brett, Lee, Reese Erickson; 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, and dear friends. Grandpa loved to reminisce and tell stories of his adventurous younger years, and his tales and jokes will be missed, but never forgotten. Ernie adopted his father's love for the sea. At five years he set sail with his father on the CP boats, and at the young age of 18 he began to travel the world from sea to sea. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Canadian and British Merchant Navy from 1940-1945. Ernie was a member of the Burma Star Association and for the last 53 years a member of Legion Branch 149. Ernie was an accomplished and well-respected marine engineer. He worked on deep-sea ships and in the towboat industry for over 30 years. He was a kind-hearted and loving husband and father, who sacrificed so much to give to his family. He was a man of integrity and was an outstanding role model for his children and grandchildren. Ernie was an honest man, who would help his friends and neighbors, expecting nothing but friendship in return. Ernie's life was full and during retirement he looked forward to his weekly breakfast with the boys from the old neighborhood. Ernie was a man who couldn't sit still and kept himself busy through his many hobbies. Ernie and Doreen's unconditional love for one another continues. A very special thanks to the dedicated staff at the Cottage Hospice for their care and compassion shown to Ernie through his stay. Ernie felt loved and a part of their family. There will be no formal service by Ernie's request. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Ernie to the St. James Cottage Hospice or to a charity of your choice. A ship was rigged and waiting for Ernie and he sailed his last farewell with heavy hearts and tears felt from Doreen and Joan. Nighty-night.
